The History and Importance of Astrology

Most of us have checked our daily horoscope before to see what type of day we are likely to have. It has become a sub-culture in most countries around the world and whether they know it or not, many people are contributing to the continuation of Astrology in the modern generation. Some of us may be shocked however to discover Astrology’s humble beginnings and how it came into being.

History of Astrology

Astrology’s inception is generally attributed to the Babylonians over 2000 years ago. Originally used to predict the coming seasons and to map celestial events, Astrology was often confused or mixed in with Astronomy due to their close relationship with the solar system interactions.

In the 4th Century, Astrology was introduced to the Greeks, and it was from this point that Astrology came to be known as a standalone science. Historical names such as Plato and Aristotle spurred this growth so that soon the Romans and Arabs had also adopted it.

Astrology started to be used not only to map upcoming seasons and celestial events, but also to forecast events such as natural disasters, war, and other events of significant importance to the human race and major political empires. It reached its historical peak when empire heads such as kings and advisors to royalty began to use astrology to determine the course of their reign.

Astrology Today

Astrology today is mainly known by its horoscope predictions based on the Zodiac signs that were introduced by the Romans. The Zodiacs are divided into four houses based on the four elements of earth – Earth, Air, Fire and Water. The four houses are each assigned three Zodiacs based on when their respective constellations are visible during the earth’s 12-month cycle around the sun.

·      Earth contains Capricorn, Taurus, and Virgo

·      Air contains Libra, Aquarius, and Gemini

·      Fire contains Aries, Sagittarius, and Leo

·      Water contains Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces

Horoscope predictions have become an important part in many people’s lives. Some people place so much faith in their horoscope that they use its suggestions to make major life decisions. However, the art of interpreting horoscopes and Astrology is a fine science that takes a large degree of skill and understanding.

Interpreting horoscopes involves looking at a person’s date of birth and the relationship to the solar system at that time. To make future predictions, an astrologer then looks at the movement of the planets and where they will move, as well as what other planets or significant heavenly bodies they will be intersecting with.

Astrology and Zodiacs has also become an important tool in developing psych profiles for people, dependent where the planets were and the signs and houses they were in at birth. These psych profiles include general behavioral nuances as well as the way people could be expected to react according to specific situations and circumstances. These profiles are used by many to categorize groups of people as well as provide base behavioral attributes to people studying the human condition. While this is accurate it’s important to note that the birth chart is more about your potential and ways in which interpreting your chart could lead you to some part of yourself you didn’t recognize yet.

 Astrological Sciences

Astrological science and dependency has grown in leaps and bounds since it was first introduced on a global scale. While there are still many who doubt the effectiveness of the horoscope predictions and personality profiles derived from it, the trend is leaning more and more in favor of the daily glimpses into people’s futures. Astrology is bound to continue growing as the movement and predictions of the solar system become easier to determine due to more advanced technology as well as a growing interest in the science as it moves more and more into the main stream.
