Too many ideas, no ability to prioritize

A few years ago I read James Altuchers book, The Power of No, and since reading his book it sparked me to start exercising my “idea muscle.” In the book James and Claudia detail the importance of being creative and continually being able to come up with new ideas. So I’ve utilized this exercise hundreds of times over the last few years… some of my favorite idea lists to make —

10 things I am grateful for

10 new business ideas

10 videos to make

10 books to write

10 things I could improve on

10 places I want to visit

10 people who add the most meaning and value to my life

I’ve received some questions about how I function with some many ideas constantly flowing through me and my answer to that is I prioritize. Just like anything else in life, when too many opportunities arise or too many options present themselves, we must prioritize which ones matter most to us.

As a society are becoming non committal. With so many options and choices we don’t know what we want. We want a little of everything. We aren’t interested in careers so much we want a lifestyle of freedom and with that comes people looking for short term commitments. I am speaking more for the younger generation.

I bring this up because it relates. It’s great to have the ability to explore in life but if we are unable to prioritize what truly matters than we might as well have no ideas at all.

How do I prioritize?

I have found spending time in nature to be the best prioritizer. I go to a sit spot and stay there for at least 20 minutes. Witnessing my inner and outer environments. I developed my deeper nature connection practice after becoming a certified forest therapy guide.

I would encourage everyone to experince a forest therapy walk for yourself (you can find walks nearest to you through Forest Bathing Finder) or join Wild Communion on one of their nature-based immersions. If you are ambition you can go for it all and become a forest therapy guide with ANFT
